President Lungu Guest Of Honor At Africa Procurement and Enterprise Development Summit, Absa Group Unveiled As Anchor Sponsor

 

Lusaka, 14 November 2018 – Today, the Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply (ZIPS) and its international partners officially announce His Excellency, The President of Zambia, Mr Edgar C. Lungu as the guest of honor of the first ever regional Africa Procurement and Enterprise Development Summit.

Absa Group, locally trading as Barclays Bank Zambia Plc, has also been unveiled as the anchor sponsor for the summit.

Speaking at the event ZIPS President, Mr Chibwe Mwelwa highlighted that President Lungu’s presence shows the commitment that the Zambian government has made to empowering and developing local businesses through local content and sourcing policies.

“To have the Head of State come and attend the summit as guest of honor shows the role that sustainable procurement practices need to play in economic development. It also reflects the drive to continued Southern African economic integration and cooperation for mutual growth, development and prosperity,” Mr. Mwelwa said.

The regional summit will take place between the 21st and 22nd November, 2018 at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, Zambia. Under the theme ‘Harnessing Procurement for Social Economic Development in Africa.’

H.E. President Lungu will address the summit on how the Zambian Government is prioritizing local procurement as a strategy for creating sustainable socio-economic development.

The Africa Procurement and Enterprise Development combines both a policy focused conference and a practical exhibition that will give local businesses access to top decision makers from both private and public organizations.

“The Africa Procurement and Enterprise Development Summit will help local business understand the opportunities that this policy shift towards local content and digitalization will create and will provide access to top decision makers in large institutions that is normally lacking,” Mizinga added.

 

The summit, the first of its kind in the region, will be held in partnership with the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM), the Malawi Institute for Procurement and Supply (MIPS), the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ), and Smart Procurement and Commerce Edge of South Africa.
