Facilitating meaningful business relationships at Absa Enterprise & Supplier Development Expo

Absa ESD Expo, held alongside the 13th Annual Smart Procurement World Indaba in Johannesburg from 16 to 19 September, once again proved its immense worth as an aid to the development of local black-owned small businesses.

“As the event gains momentum, so the exhibitors continue to reap the benefits. We had a record number of exhibitors this year, with 349 small businesses using the opportunity to network with fellow small business owners as well as large corporates. The Expo, together with the workshops and matchmaking sessions for SMMEs allows them to develop relationships with public and private sector supply chain decision makers represented by the 3 000 attendees,” said Debbie Tagg, COO of Smart Procurement, organisers of the event.

Tagg said that the Expo generated over 6 500 leads over the Two day showcase and there were a record number of 30 Partner organizations and corporates hosting over 350 SMME’s.

“This year was all about making an impact and focusing on meaningful interaction between buyers and SMME sellers. Judging by the positive reaction we received from the exhibitors, this goal was definitely achieved,” Tagg said.

“We received such overwhelming feedback from the buyers. We need to set up a couple of sessions to do presentations for reputable companies,” said Phiwokuhle Mlotshwa from ProquaTech Developers, hosted by Absa.

Samukelisiwe Kunene, from the Lesedi 7 Group added: “We met a lot of interesting people, got new clients and built new business relationships.”

Thabiso Mofokeng, Bareng Batho Transport and Civil Construction, hosted by Grinding Media South Africa was equally satisfied: “The leads that we got will positively change our revenue.”

William Mvulane Dhlongolo, Isiyalu Business Enterprises said: “It was a very insightful conference on procurement and provided us with vital information on how to position our business to engage with big corporations. The environment was very empowering and will allow us to facilitate meaningful business relationships.”
