I am medical doctor with experience in health leadership in diverse settings within the health system. In my current role as Manager: Medical Services at the Western Cape Rehabilitation Centre (WCRC); Brackengate Transitional Care Facility and Orthotics and Prosthetic Centre, I am responsible for the management of the clinical component. I am also working closely with other service managers on the strengthening of the transitional care services across the health platform which is a strategic goal of the department as we shift our focus to “wellness” holistically.
My past medical management experience ranges from sub-district management in the West Coast District and at Karl Bremer Hospital, a large metro district hospital, where I managed the specialist clinical components, clinical support and allied health services.
Some of my most significant career highlights as health manager is my role of leader during the Swartland Hospital fire disaster immediate and recovery response in 2017, the COVID-19 pandemic response for Karl Bremer Hospital between 2020 and 2022, establishing the CTICC Hospital of Hope as Clinical Manager and later managing the Brackengate COVID-19 Intermediate Care Facility as CEO during the first wave of COVID-19, and more recently, being involved in the commissioning of the advanced transitional care service model at the Brackengate Transitional Care Facility in collaboration with the team at WCRC.
My passion as clinician and medical manager lies with clinical governance and improvement in the public health context – a job that is highly challenging but extremely rewarding. I have learned the value of collaborative partnerships and relational capital in our highly pressurised and complex health system.
