Dr Andrea Campher is Senior Manager: Sustainability, Agribusiness & Ecosystems at Standard Bank Business and Commercial Banking, where she leads climate-smart agriculture initiatives across 15 African markets. Her work focuses on integrating sustainability into agribusiness financing, expanding access to carbon markets, and developing innovative climate finance solutions that support resilient, regenerative agricultural systems across the continent.
Prior to joining Standard Bank, Andrea practised as an attorney with Right of Appearance in the High Court of South Africa, specialising in corporate and commercial law. She subsequently transitioned into agricultural policy, risk and disaster management, serving as Risk and Disaster Manager, Acting Head of Land Affairs at Agri SA, and Chairperson of the Disaster Relief Foundation. In these roles, she led policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement initiatives on behalf of South Africa’s agricultural sector.
Andrea holds an LLB, an LLM in Environmental Law and Governance, and a Doctor of Laws (LLD) from North-West University. Her doctoral research explored the ring-fencing of carbon tax revenues to strengthen climate adaptation in agriculture through the Disaster Management Act 57 of 2002. As part of this work, she developed proposed legislative amendments for consideration by Parliament.
She has extensive board and governance experience and is actively involved in climate policy, sustainable agriculture, and agricultural development across Africa. Andrea also serves as an advisory board member of the University of the Free State Business School’s Climate Finance Chair, contributing to research and thought leadership on climate finance, regulatory frameworks, and agrifood system transformation.
In addition, Andrea is certified by the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF) in financed emissions accounting, further strengthening her expertise in climate risk, emissions measurement, sustainable finance, and the transition to a low-carbon economy.
