An astute management professional with 20 years of experience in finance, operations and payments within a leading financial institution in South Africa. Shabir Ahmed is an executive member of the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) Product House and heads up the Operations, Industry and Interbank Portfolio. As the Head of Operations and Industry, Shabir is responsible for the Clearing and Settlement of ACH Payments, Dispute Management, Business Support and Fraud functions.
Shabir is also responsible for the industry function and currently holds a seat in various Interbank Clearing House Participant Groups at the Payments Association of South Africa (PASA).
Over his previous tenure at FNB Merchant Services, Shabir held an Executive Position heading up the Industry and Fraud Function. He was the Chairperson of the Card Payment Clearing House at PASA, held a seat on the Retailer Card Stakeholder Forum and also held a Council seat on the Mastercard Fraud Advisory Council. He also provides strategic input to the regulators as well as the South African Reserve Bank.
