Tania Swanepoel is Head of Sustainability at Old Mutual Alternative Investments, one of Africa’s leading private alternative investment managers with over R127billion in assets under management, investing across infrastructure, private equity, hybrid capital, and impact funds. Tania leads the sustainability practice across business units and funds, drives ESG strategy and embeds impact investing principles across its portfolios. Since joining in 2018, she has played a central role in integrating ESG considerations into investment decision-making, identifying and managing sustainability risks and unlocking opportunities while supporting asset managers and portfolio company teams in building resilient and sustainable businesses.
With over 28 years of sustainability experience, Tania brings deep technical expertise across the renewable energy, mining, oil and gas, ports and logistics, education, housing, digital infrastructure and transport sectors. Before moving into investment management, she spent more than two decades in environmental and social consulting, beginning her career in geoscience and progressing through the consultant ranks building a strong background in environmental and social impact assessment, due diligence, environmental, social, health and safety (ESHS) best practice and environmental site assessment and remediation. She has served on several boards and subcommittees, complementing practical implementation experience and strategic oversight.
